How to Prepare Before Embryo Transfer
Embryo Transfer is a crucial step in the IVF/ICSI process, which depends not only on embryo quality but also on the readiness of the uterus and endometrium. Proper preparation before the procedure plays an important role in enhancing the chances of successful implantation and pregnancy.
Why is preparation before embryo transfer important?
The success of pregnancy does not depend solely on the embryo but also on the “uterine environment.” When the body is in optimal condition, it helps support embryo implantation and reduces the risk of complications.

Guidelines During Endometrial Preparation
1) Strictly follow your doctor’s treatment plan
Schedule and attend your appointment within the first three days of your menstrual cycle so the doctor can prescribe medication to prepare the endometrium. The preparation process typically takes about 19–24 days to help the uterine lining thicken and become suitable for embryo implantation.
It is important to take medications as prescribed and on time. If you experience any abnormal symptoms, please inform the nursing staff immediatel.

2) Take good care of your overall health
- Eat a balanced diet covering all five food groups
- Emphasize protein, vegetables, fruits, and antioxidant-rich foods
- Drink sufficient water
- Avoid alcohol and reduce caffeine intake

3) Get enough rest
Sleep at least 7–8 hours per night to allow your body to recover and help balance hormones, which play a role in uterine receptivity for embryo implantation.

4) Avoid activities that may affect the endometrium
- Sexual intercourse, as it may impact the uterine lining and increase infection risk
- Strenuous or excessive exercise
- Hot baths, saunas, or steam rooms
Preparation on the Day of Embryo Transfer
- Take a shower and wear comfortable clothing on the day of the procedure
- Avoid using perfume, scented products, cosmetics, lotions, or powder
- Arrive at the clinic at the scheduled time for pre-procedure preparation
- The nurse will ask you to drink water and keep a full bladder to help adjust the angle of the uterus, making embryo transfer easier and more accurate
Preparing before embryo transfer is not just about physical care but about creating the most favorable environment for implantation and pregnancy. Following medical instructions regarding medication, nutrition, rest, and stress management can significantly increase the chances of a successful embryo transfer and a healthy pregnancy.
